Attorney Nina Korkis Taweel brings experience and dedication to her clients involved in personal injury, Michigan marihuana law, and business and criminal litigation in state and federal courts. With a proven track record as a tough litigator in both the public and private sectors, Nina specializes in handling everything from auto accidents and contract disputes, to civil and criminal jury trials.
As part of her litigation practice, Nina has obtained numerous high dollar settlements and verdicts for her clients. As part of her business litigation experience, she also assists clients with obtaining injunctive relief — previously representing businesses in a variety of proceedings focusing on non-compete clauses and theft of trade secrets. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with degrees in political science and history from the University of Detroit Mercy in 1998, Nina went on to earn her Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2001.
Nina is experienced in both state and federal courts, previously practicing at a nationwide firm and serving as an assistant prosecuting attorney and an assistant corporate counsel. She effectively serves her clients using her varied background for discovery, motion practice and trial preparation.
As an assistant prosecuting attorney, Nina tried approximately 45 felony cases, including murder, manslaughter, rape, armed robbery and drug-related issues. While working as an assistant corporation counsel, Nina litigated constitutional violations in state and federal courts. Nina also handled real estate matters, negotiating leases, development agreements and purchase agreements.
In addition, Nina handled complex product liability cases for domestic and foreign automotive manufacturers and advised clients regarding electronic discovery and Medicare matters.
Currently admitted to the United States District Court for both the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, Nina holds memberships with the State Bar of Michigan and the Federal Bar Association. Nina serves as a volunteer attorney for the Federal Pro Bono Council and was also recognized as a Top Lawyer in Commercial Litigation by DBusiness magazine in 2014. Nina is also a member of the State Bar of Michigan – Marijuana Law Section and Litigation Section.
